Developing Countries

Many developing countries suffer water scarcity and will be hardly hit due to climate change.

A behavioural intervention in the Dominican Republic is being developed to explore the effectiveness of providing real-time feedback and persuasive communications among all-inclusive resort guests.

Also, research is being developed to test the market acceptability of the smart technology among businesses, water utility companies and policy makers.

The Dominican Republic suffers from water scarcity

Only 82% of the population in the Dominican Republic have access to clean water and 5.5% have no access to drinking water, while the tourism sector uses vast amounts of water.

A partnership aiming to reduce the negative environmental impacts of tourism in water depletion

We build on an ongoing partnership between the United Nations Environment Program, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Fundación Ecoturismo Responsable, to reduce the negative environmental impacts of tourism in water depletion
